Tweak Firefox memory usage
Monday, April 3rd, 2006
So if you haven’t noticed Firefox eats memory like a mofo. This is becasue of a fast-back fast-forward option that they have. Basically firefox caches in memory up to the last 8 pages you have been on. This tends to eat away at your memory, if you have a fast internet connection I would disable it.
To disable it goto about:config in firefox in a new tab, in the filter box filter for browser.sessionhistory.max_total_viewers, then double click and change the value to 0
Third Party Apps for DBMS
Tuesday, February 28th, 2006So this is the best third party apps I know about for MySQL, MS-SQL Server, Postgre, and Firebird if you are into the third party apps for Windows. I like these because they have code completion which makes writing SQL much faster and accurate. All are free applications from http://www.sqlmanager.net/

Tivo Series 3
Wednesday, January 11th, 2006
Ahh yes CES is good for many reason other than the porn convention next door! Looks like Tivo is coming out with a series 3 DVR which has 2 tuners and HD recording capabilities along with a 250GB hard drive. Also has a LCD readout panel on the front for easy checkup on what is being recorded. Looks like it also has built in networking capabilities. Pretty cool check it out.
Hmmm…pay a monthly service for Tivo or do a cheap linux box with Freevo, Ill have to try Freevo before I am convinced.
Ipod Sync
Saturday, January 7th, 2006Alright well I broke down and bought an Ipod over Xmass. So the things I dont like about it the fact ITunes controls everything and does DRM. So ITunes doesn’t sync with other folders so whenever I add music I have to do it manually to ITunes. Well here comes an app to the rescue. ITunes Library Updater does everything. I just point it to a directory and it syncs ITunes and my IPod and all I have to do is click one button. It keeps my ITunes time to a minimum which is great! Very Nice, check it out….
Galleon
Tuesday, January 3rd, 2006
Well for those of you with Tivo, this is the application to have. It takes place of the crappy Tivo Desktop and adds a ton of functionality. It crashed a lot on me with Windows so I went to Linux and ran it with no issues.

New Year…New Linux
Tuesday, January 3rd, 2006Well happy new year and sorry for the neglect of the past few weeks things have been crazy with people and work. So with the new year came a new version of Linux for my desktop and laptop now I am running Kubuntu. Good distro with a good support forum and IRC channel, uses the new KDE 3.5 so it’s pretty clean. Best part is it supports my wireless cards without any effort.

No Heat
Wednesday, December 7th, 2005
So it looks like this morning our heater decided to stop working and it is about 40 degrees in our house as it is -2 outside with a high of 5 expected. We still have power and hot water so I have turned on the fire and stayed near it waiting for the guy to come fix it. Love how that stuff stops working at the best time.
I think our cats have found a good way to deal with the cold.
Can You spot the Cat?
Saturday, December 3rd, 2005
Can you spot the cat? Don’t know why but this is his favorite place to go in our house. We have tried everything to keep him from going back there but he still manages to do it. Maybe he likes the heat of all the electronics?
