Climbing 14ers

November 6th, 2007

This post is a little dated but I will add it because I have to play with the new photo gallery!

Well I have started climbing 14ers in Colorado and got 2 under my belt before I ran out of hiking season. But I am looking forward to picking it up again next season!

NextGen Gallery Plug-in

November 6th, 2007

Thumbnail via WebSnapr: http://danieltmurphy.com/Well if you haven’t noticed I have installed a very nice gallery plugin for WordPress.  This is going to replace my Coppermine photo gallery which has worked well until now and I have decided I wanted something more closely related to my blog.  This program is super easy to install just download, unzip and upload to the plugin folder and then activate the plugin.  It also has a widget which you can install which will run in the sidebars and you can have it randomly select images or stick to one image.  I also had to install JW Image Rotation for the slide show option to work correctly

FastStone Screen Capture Program

November 6th, 2007

Well looks like FastStone has decided after version 5.3 to make this software shareware and lock up after 30 days.  This is version 5.3 which is free for private use according to their rules.  I use this program a ton and love it because it is super light and always running and allows users to select exactly what they want to copy to the clipboard.  You can have it copy to the clipboard or you can have it create a .jpg or open an editor, it does just about everything you could think about.

Solar LED Road Lights

November 5th, 2007

image Possibly the best idea I have ever heard of.  One thing about Colorado roads is that they are poorly lit and hard to see especially late night in a rain storm.  I often like to call I-70 the road to nowhere in the dark because you cannot see anything beyond your headlights.  Now if they can get these things down to a reasonable price and fix it so that the snow plows don’t scrape them off in the winter I think this is awesome.  This would be another idea I thought of by the way…really need to start doing stuff I think of!

Meguiar’s NXT Tech Wax

November 3rd, 2007

image Well of course after I just buy some tech wax 1.0 they come out with the new 2.0 tech wax.  This stuff is great it doesn’t dry super white and doesn’t leave a film.  Apparently the new version is Hydrophobic leaving a layer off wax that makes the water bead up and run off your car faster then ever before so the chances of your car staying clean are much better than before.  As usual I would expect this to come in around $25 or so as that is what I paid for the last one.  Only problem is this wax tends to last me a long time so who knows when I will need to buy the next version but chances are it will take a while to come out anyway’s.

Eye-Fi Wireless Card

November 3rd, 2007

image This is a great idea.  This little card plugs into your SD port and doubles as memory (2GB) and a wireless transmitter to connect to your computer/network.  Every time you are in range of your wireless it automatically uploads to the Internet and syncs your pictures so no more wires to fumble with.  I hope that they come out with more mediums then just SD but this is a great idea and makes things super easy.  You can program your wireless internet settings to the card by just inserting it into a card reader or plugging in your camera to your computer and using a very easy interface to set all the options

Arapahoe Rescue Patrol

November 3rd, 2007

ARP_Logo_vectorizedSo I have just completed and made the new Arapahoe Rescue site live with the help of one of my friends hosting services.  Their old site was pretty bad and this is a big upgrade.  It’s running phpBB, WordPress, and WebCalendar as those seem to always work really well for me.  Hopefully this should help their recruiting services as they need some help keeping the patrol going.  Also it got me a free pair of boots! Awesome.  I also used an open DNS service called everydns.net to do the routing for the URL which seems to work very well and is free.

64 Interview Answers

November 1st, 2007

image This is kind of an interesting find.  These are some good directional answers for the most common interview questions that you encounter.  Who knew that 80% of all interviews begin with the tell me about yourself question of which you are not supposed to give them your life story but relate your experiences to things that would benefit the job you are applying for.  Check out the other questions
