Ergohuman Office Chair

Well not that I have started spending a lot more time at home and in my home office I decided that I needed to take a new look at the office chair I was using.  Previously I had the Costco ‘sofa’ office chair.  Actually that was a decent chair and held up over time very well.  It’s a great chair for sitting in for about an hour, it is not a great chair for sitting in after a long period of time.  I found that I would get a little sore and restless in the chair after a few hours.  So I went around to all the stores checking out some mesh back type chairs, but came up empty as most of the chairs they had were super cheap looking.  I am a fan of these ‘task’ or ‘executive’ chairs because they tend to me a little more comfortable and have more adjustments.  With the Costco chair I was stuck with just the typical up and down adjustment to height.  Being 6 foot 2 I wanted to be able to adjust the seat pan depth and move the back up and down and wanted an ability to adjust the arms.

Well one thing to consider when looking at chairs is the price.  Most of these chairs with those adjustments are in the $1,000+ range, I was thinking about spending that but turned to Craigslist as I figured there would be someone who wanted to be getting rid of those chairs for a cheaper price.  That is how I came on the Ergohuman chair.  The chair is for sale on Amazon for $607 and I was able to get a hold of it for $300 and barely used.  I find that this chair is way more comfortable and allows for much more breathing room than the Costco chair due to its mesh lining.  The arm resets move up and down and also swivel to the inside which makes it comfortable for typing.  Now that I can move them up and down I can actually sit close to my desk as I can put the armrests above the desk rather than below which make a nice rest for typing.  The back has really nice support and is comfortable on the lower back.  Also the chair is super heavy and feels very sturdy.  I can adjust the seat pan depth which is nice so now my legs are a little more supported.  And the height adjustment is great and lets me sit exactly where I want to with all my other adjustments.

Going into issues with the chair I have only one.  It is that when you recline, when the recline is unlocked, it does feel a little bit fast like its going to tip over so you have to be careful with that one.  At one of my offices I managed to flip over backwards in an Aeron Chair, which is one reason I refuse to get those chair mats I think it makes things way to slick.  Other than that it’s a whole lot more comfortable to be sitting in this chair for many hours while working from home and I would suggest the chair with no reservations.  Thanks to Craigslist I managed to get this at a reasonable price, with all the companies that are having issues now office furniture is pretty easy to find and I might have to keep an eye out for a new desk next!

OBD2 – Car Diagnostic Tool

2008-12-02_191012Well this morning my check engine light went off which was met with a few choice words.  Luckily I read a while back that most car parts shops like Checker or Autozone will read the codes for free for you and clear the check engine light.  Well I made my way by one on the way home and looked at the model she was using to read the codes.  In the past week both Laura and I have had our check engine lights come on and it’s really annoying that I cannot tell what is causing the issue.  So I am thinking of investing in one of those diagnostic tools.  I found one that will take updates from the Internet as well as record live data that you can then chart on your computer.  The model is the Equus 3130 Innova Diagnostic Code Scanner. Amazon has them on sale for $154, after the holidays I may be picking one of these up.  Seeing as I will always have a car and as long as this stays updated I should be good to go

Nyko Charge Base 2

image So I just purchased the Nyko Charge Base 2.  This allows you to charge your PS3 remotes without having to use a USB port on the PS3 and the main reason I got it is because it charges using an AC adapter.  This is nice because then you do not have to leave your PS3 on to charge your controllers.

The unit is well designed and comes with little dongles that you see in the bottom right of the picture.  You plug that dongle into the USB port on the remote and then you can just place the remote up-side-down into the charger.  The LED’s indicate if its charging are done, Red means charging Green means done.  It takes 2 hours to fully charge the remotes.  This will be a nice add-on to my PS3 so that I can make sure my remotes are fully charged, nothing worse then running out of power when you are playing.  Especially since I only have one DualShock Controller while the other two are not.

I bought mine at Microcenter because by the time shipping and handling was done from the Internet it was the same price.  Plus nothing like instant gratification!

PS3 DualShock 3 Controller

image Looks like Sony finally managed to figure out their legal issues with the company they ‘borrowed’ the force feedback technology from and were able to bring it to the PS3.

I went and picked one of these up as soon as I found a store that had them.  Since no one shops at Circuit City they had a whole display of them and for $5 less than retail.  Currently I am playing Devil May Cry 4 which is one of the games that is already rumble ready.  It is nice to have some more weight back into the controller as the regular Six Axis just felt way too light.  The rumble is nice and strong and a happy thing to welcome back.  I am just curious to see what this does to my battery life on the worst rated controllers in terms of battery life.

Oh well whatever I still love my PS3! Where is my GT/5 Prologue??  Working on Condemned 2 and Devil May Cry 4, I may have hit a wall with Devil May Cry but I need more time to play, damn school, work and warm weather keeps getting in my way!

Ivyskin Xylo T2 iTouch Case Review

image

So I finally purchased a cover for my iTouch that I won back in January.  That is one good thing about not having to pay for the original toy is I can buy some accessories for it and not feel too bad.  The case is exactly as described and works very well.  My only beef with the case is that they don’t mention that regular headphones will no longer plug in with this case because it recesses the headphone jack.  It is easily solved by buying an adapter but something I wasn’t expecting to deal with.  Other than that this is a great case and matches a similar one I bought for a 30GB 5G iPod.  The best part about the casing is it doesn’t add too much bulk to the iTouch it still fits in my pocket easily.

Another unexpected bonus was the nice letter that came in the well packaged product.  It was just a little thank you for purchasing our products and how they are a start up company.  Amazing how far a little communication back to the end user can go!

image Alpine has come out with a new lineup for 2008 that adds some very nice features to your car stereo.  It adds iPod compatibility, Bluetooth compatibility, USB connectivity.  Click the image to see the product catalog.  Now if they could only make the features standard on stock stereos I would be set!

image image So looks like Amazon still thinks that books are alive just in a different format.  This device is setup with EVDO networking and automatically holds just about all the books that you could want to read.  Pricing looks like you browse and then buy and the device it self is $400. All new release books cost $9.99 as do books found on the NYT best sellers list. Newspaper subscriptions cost $5.99 to $14.99 per month and Kindle Magazines cost between $1.25 and $3.49 per month — each is available for a free 2 week trial.  Blogs will cost you $0.99 per month to subscribe.  Today they are boasting 88,000 titles and 100 of the 112 best sellers available.  You do not need to setup an EVDO account that is automatically included.

I think this is a step in the right direction but it is going to be hard to get people to get used to reading a long novel on a screen rather than in a book.  Assuming that the resolution is setup correctly and the fonts are eye pleasing it is just a matter of getting people to change.  Which is always easier said then done.  Personally I love the idea because it makes it a lot more simple to read books.  I am waiting to see what happens after some hackers get their hands on this thing and make it do things it was never meant to do!

Digital Golf Putter

image But will it help me? Probably not…  This electronic display putter (not approved by PGA) allows you to collect just about all the data you can think about when it comes to putting.  It allows you to track swing path, impact position, face angle, swing tempo and speed.  They also mention an internal navigation system but I think they should have added a database of all the greens and suggestions on how you should try to put.  Kind of like Tiger-Vision like on Tiger Woods Golf on PS2…that would be awesome!  Available today for a cheap $899.99 before shipping.

image For those of you who are paranoid or worried that someone would really get to see the term paper you wrote in college this product makes a lot of sense.  I like the idea that it is totally self contained and provides power to the drive it is about to erase.  Personally I use Eraser for Windows to clean my tracks with my work computer and that does a 7 pass multipass of random data on the drive.  And that was free but I guess if you are in the business of eraseing HD’s this is a good idea!  Price is at $149 and is compatible with PATA and SATA drives
