Find Big Mail Gmail Service

This is a pretty cool deal this will scan your email and let you know what your biggest email culprits are as far as size is concerned.  Since I stopped deleting my email in Gmail my inbox was growing pretty large.  Well this is a way to let you know where the big emails are and remove them.  After running this service I went from 20% space use to 5% space use and that was just deleting the Ultra big emails.  What it does is scans your emails and then adds labels to them so you can identify your big emails.  This is a great way to clean out your inbox quickly.  All you do is go to FindBigMail.com and let her rip!

2009-02-06_083400So my favorite skin for gmail has finally completed and released their redesign for greader.  I am a big fan of it and it looks really clean.  Looks like for now you have to manually update the plugin for Firefox and then update the styles after that but the end result is very nice.

Google Calendar Sync

With Plaxo’s inability to really be reliable these days for calendar syncing I have decided to start using Google’s Calendar Sync.  You can set the intervals to sync your mail and runs without any issues.  Then I also have Plaxo pick up my iCal settings from Gmail and sync again.  It is just nice to have my calendar in multiple places in case I need access to it from different locations.

Picasa 3 Now Out

Picasa3 has made its way out with some very nice UI improvements.  Probably one of the most notable is the new default image viewer when you open an image file.  It is really clean and looks great and grays out the rest of your screen and only shows the image.  There have also been a few application changes but for the most part the application is still the same.  I use this everyday as my screen saver as its a super easy way to setup rotating pictures on your computer.

Picasa is still king when it comes to managing a crapload of pictures.  Download the new version here

Globex Designs – Gmail Redesigned

Globex has been the mastermind behind Gmail and Gcalendar redesigned.  They just recently came out with a plug-in for FireFox so you do not have to worry about updating stylish or manually doing the CSS sheet.  This plug-in checks for new updates automatically and applies them.  The good news is you can actually get rid of stylish all together.

Rumor has it they are working on a Google Reader template as well so I am looking forward to seeing that.  With this redesign though I actually love Gmail even more and all my chat stuff works from the office.

Globex Now Hosting their own Styles

image Globex has moved to their own servers and taken their styles off of stylish’s web site.  This is probably because of the great failure rates of the stylish’s web site.  To install the style follow the link below click either Gmail Redesigned or GCal redesign and then right click the stylish icon and go to ‘add file to stylish’  This way it will pick up all the changes as things happen on their site

Google Calendar Redesign

image The same people who redid the Gmail front end have also decided to go out and redo Google Calendar as well.  This color scheme follows the same design cues as the Gmail version.

image Some minor tweaks, but pretty noticeable changes to the Stylish format for Gmail.  Now the style includes new icons as well as copying the style throughout the setting pages of Gmail. Also the chat boxes are a little prettier and some cleanup of some other fonts and whatnot.  Looks amazing, kinda bummed that stylish doesn’t pick up on the updates and you have to do it yourself.   This makes Gmail much better  Check it out.

Make Gmail Better

image As with Google Reader there is a plugin for making Gmail look better and function better as well.  It is called Better Gmail 2.  Today I also found an application called Gmail Redesigned which gives you a nice skin to throw onto Gmail.  I don’t use Gmail a lot as I usually use Yahoo to do my web mailing but one thing Gmail does do is it allows me to spoof the email I am sending from so I can email from my school email account straight from Google.  This is a lot easier then logging into my school email account.  Lifehacker says that they are going to update Better Gmail soon so that it has skins but until then using Stylish and this script Gmail is much prettier now!

image With the re-doing of the ARP website I had to deal with email accounts.  Because I went with one of my friends for the hosting he told me he doesn’t host the email anymore but said that Google can.  Well once again Google to the rescue.  I logged into the Goggle Apps website and setup everything and it was very easy.  With some changes to the DNS with the addition of some MX records I now have access to create up to 100 email address up to 4 GB each all with the domain name of my website.  (ie.. dan@danieltmurphy.com) Pretty sweet, also you can setup a subdomain to point to google’s online mail server for easy access.  Plus now Google allows you to get mail via POP3 or IMAP so using a BlackBerry device to get your email is easier than ever.  Amazing what you can get for free these days and how simple it is to setup.
