I was looking for a way to assign a hotkey to Q-Dir for file management as I will never use it unless it is as easy as running Windows-E. Well I ran across this program which is awesome it allows you to assign any hotkeys you want with the Windows button. It has a very easy to use graphical interface to assign the buttons and you can assign anything. So far I have it setup to run Q-Dir, Firefox, Outlook, and Command Prompt (cygwin) in a single hotkey. It is a huge time saver and picks up where Launchy is lacking.

Executor is a new player to the game of Windows quick launch applications. With Executor you get a light footprint application that searches not only your start menu for applications but your documents and searches via keywords. It is full of custom settings and also doubles as a hot-key application manager allowing you to setup any application to start with a certain hot-key combo.
Being partial to Launchy I found this program to be a little bloated and a little over configurable. Not bloated in the sense it is too large just bloated in the sense of options they attempted to put into place. The program is still in beta so I will keep an eye on it as it moves into GA and maybe they will clear up some of the bugs that I was seeing. Also I really like the hotkey combo with Launchy of Alt-Spacebar to launch it where as with Executor I cannot choose that key combo. The keywords are a nice touch but it is something else to setup independently and takes too much time. Perhaps I am getting old and set in my ways but I think so far I will stick with Launchy’s quick easy interface and reliability. Plus I am a big fan of my new skin for Launchy!

New job, new laptop, time for a new Launchy skin. After finally gaining admin access to my laptop I was able to get my applications loaded to help me work faster. Its amazing how used to Launchy I had gotten and how much I missed it. But good news, I got it installed and everything is working great with this new sharp theme. I found it the same place I posted before from DeviantArt.com.
I am a huge fan of Launchy and it has replaced my start menu totally. Well today I decided that I would look around and see if I can change the skin a little bit. Well low and behold our good friends at DeviantArt.com have a whole library of skins for you to download. Install is as easy as downloading, unzipping and changing the skin in Launchy. My favorite launcher application Launchy has come out with a new version. This thing is a huge time saver and I don’t even use my Start menu any more because of it. The new version has some much needed features. My favorite feature is that you can use it as a calculator just by entering 1+1 and it works great and faster then launching calc.
