LiberKey – Portable USB Software

2009-06-20_195838Well if you have ever wanted portable apps on crack this might just be the application for you.  With USB keys getting up to 128GB these days trying to find stuff to fill it is about half the fun!  Well just ran across this application the other day, it puts Portable Apps to shame and has over 200+ applications that are easily updateable and easy to download new ones.  It also allows you to easily add applications that are not part of the general install package.

The ultimate package comes with over 200+ applications and download at about 200MB and unzips to about 600MB.  I finally have everything I could ever want on my work laptop without having to worry about actually installing software on it!

Lacie USB Key Drive

3-13-09-lacie-usb-keysWhy it took so long for these products to actually materialize I will never know.  I always have kept a USB drive on my key chain but I have had issues with it breaking or being a little too bulky or fragile.  These new ones from Lacie are all metal and the shape of your keys so they fall in line super easily.  Since they are a whopping $27 for 8 GB I think I will be picking one of these up when they come back in stock.  Check them out: Lacie Key Drives

Belkin USB and Surge Protector

image Belkin is notorious for making a good easy idea a very expensive little toy.  Take the iPhone headphone adapter I bought for my car that was $12, $12 for a plug…nice and sadly enough I paid for it.

Amazingly enough this great idea of convergence is only $25 which is very well priced for a Belkin product.  I like the idea of being able to charge gadgets via USB via a power outlet rather than a computer.  The only bad thing I have read about this product is it is a little heftier then the pictures make it look so its not ideal for traveling but I just want something I can charge my iTouch, iPod, and PS3 controllers on.

80-in-1 High Speed Card Reader

image There is a competition to make the end all card reader and as of today this one takes the cake.  it reads 80 different flash media types and costs a whopping $17 not a bad deal considering the one I bought at Best Buy the other day was $25 and that read only SD cards.

Sony Tiny USB Flash Drive

image I saw one of these at Best Buy today and was amazed at the tiny size of this bad boy.  Its reasonably priced at $69 and caries 4GB, this image makes me laugh because the image is like 2 times the size of the actual product.  It comes with a nice little sleeve to carry around in with a clip to put it on your key chain.  I like the SanDisk that I posted before and that I currently have but I thought this one was worth noting.

5 port USB, SATA, eSATA

imageAh yes convergence at its finest.  You can never have enough USB ports and this adds the nice functionality of eSATA and SATA plugs which are great seeing as how there are a lot of new enclosures with ports on them and it is also a lot faster then USB.  $43 for the powered version which is a must as just about all peripherals need power from USB.  Personally I am excited to see USB 3.0 come to the market!

SanDisk Cruzer Micro 4GB

imageI figured I would try and start posting prices on some of the technology stuff I want so I can track over time how retardedly cheap this stuff gets if I can just wait long enough.  Yesterday I managed to break my 4GB pen drive and have reverted to my old one.  But the form factor and strength of my old one is so much better as it is similar to the one pictured and is perfect for a key chain because it is not flimsy and made of plastic.  My only issue is it is 1 GB.  Typically all I keep on my pen drive are some key files along with Portable Apps which is great for computers that are locked down or when you are browsing at a friends house.  Well this pen drive is currently at $54 on Amazon.  I think I will hold out on my 1GB for a little longer until I find a reason other than just a want to get a bigger one!   I know that SanDisk sells the titanium ones as well but I really like this form much better as it is much more convenient on a key chain and doesn’t bend while i plug it into a computer with the rest of my keys hanging off

USB Video Extender

image For those of us who love the multiple monitor setup this is a great alternative to buying an expensive video card.  It just plugs into your USB port and on the other side is DVI or Analog VGA and runs $119.  I am still waiting for those monitors that just plugged into your USB ports that should be nice especially with the new USB 3.0 standard defined as basically insane

USB Chargeable Batteries

image image

I think that these products are a great idea.  They use the power over USB to charge AA batteries that can be used anywhere.  I think this is a great alternative to throwing away batteries and is super convenient to changing batteries when they are dead.  Thing is they kinda come at a premium at about $8-$10 for a set of two but would be great for something like a wireless mouse or keyboard.
